C1 COLLECTIVE - ELAYN & KAYAL

We are very pleased to announce our second podcast from C1 Collective mixed by Kayal and Elayn. C1 Collective is a Berlin-based, self-organised group of Syrian diasporas redefining its identity through electronic music and arts. Kayal aka Ayham is a sound artist with a visual background in Graphic Design and DJ. Elayn aka Abdul is an architect, vitalist, music producer, and DJ.

“We want to dedicate this mix to talk about our experience with involuntary displacement. This musical journey is driven by sounds that simulate grooves as an action of non-stopping movement, built up with dub elements and rhythms that are deeply rooted in our Syrian collective memory as a diaspora.

Expect grooves with lower dub elements, emphasising our cohesive movement, challenging both social and political terms. We aim sonically to embody our sound and to be able to stand behind it, so rather say our musical selection for this mix goes in line with our taste in production. With the more experimental-oriented perspective, we carved our way pushing the boundaries of our sound with a free-spirited poly rhythmic abstract tech-noise. A language that connects us mystically to techno music, making it a soulful experience away from trends and hype of any kind”

To give a peek into the creative process we asked to name three tracks and explain how these tracks fit in the story of the podcast.

Muslimgauze - Salaam Alekum, Bastard mixed with Damascus (Ex Nihilo Remix) - Camu (0.00)
“We love to open with these two tracks, the bass elements combined with one of Damascus's unique sound masques and the prayers of the morning are deeply rooted in our childhood, a sound that we grow up with.”

Pursuit of illusion - Ebass (50:00)
“A unique, timeless baseline that gives headroom in the mix for the other tracks to smoothly fit in”

Relapse - Octavio (58:00)
“A closer to embracing what is left unsaid”
