"Techno reflects my personality pretty good. It’s steady, repetitive and constant. And I am also like that. I was told once I would tend to find no end in a way. And that is one of those parts that you will find, especially in the berlin techno scene, the most. It’s not comparable to other cities like New York, London or Shanghai because of it’s intensity, technical quality and opening hours.
One day I was sitting in Halle am Berghain during Ostgut Ton Weekend and I was looking at the ceilings. I was just blown away by the majesty, architecture and brutality. This everlasting concrete beauty. I wanted to capture something of that. I strictly respect their photo policy, so I didn’t take a picture but started to draw on my phone. I already had experience with digital drawing and a proper artistic background not just because of my architectural education.
In a way, the phone is made for digital drawing in clubs because you have a glowing screen and it’s crystal clear. I can start right away, and it goes really fast. You will always find an interesting spot or situation while waiting on a drink or a track is not so attractive. Soon I posted these drawings on Instagram and suddenly it became really popular. People said I should exhibit it, so I did. Last year I had shows in Barcelona + Paris, and this year in New York. I got published in magazines. Partly because of the fame of Berghain but also because my work is about digital impressionism as a contemporary form of artistic expression as well.
I also have drawn some clubs that are not here anymore like Chalet, Bassy or Output. Places where you couldn’t take pictures but are now captured. That also really interests me.”
