“I have always been in touch with my dark side. That’s why I love the nightlife so much. My creativity starts to run at night. I started in the nineties. I’ve been to Roxy and IT. I loved it, but the music was not my taste. Back then you could find me at illegal Multigroove or Parkzigt in Rotterdam. With dream team Dano, the Prophet and Buzz Fuzz. But Detroit techno really stole my heart. Sometimes people ask me if it was better back in the days. I think I like it now more because of the advanced technology DJ’s use.
One of my most memorable experiences was when @freddyk3614 did the legandary closing of Berghain. It was his birthday and he did a thirteen-hour vinyl only set. When I came out my feet were completely destroyed. It is the perfect example of how a good closing looks like physically. It was such an emotional journey.
I am fascinated by all aspects of the underground. It’s something that originates from suppression, political reasons or not be able to voice yourself. The first generation is very open and involves other people. Then the second generation just wants to be part of it because it’s underground and they will exclude. Therefore, is going to be more popular and in the end it’s becoming mainstream. That’s my theory.
I always knew that techno would bring me more than just music and friends. It has brought me to organize my own parties @eerstecommunie & part of @pechera_ams . It’s amazing to see it works and people get our vision. We are building a community with likeminded individuals. We understand each other. We connect. And we feel truly free.
That is what hedonism means for me: freedom. I don’t have the urge to walk around naked, but I find it very important that other people feel comfortable to do so. Or to act out their fetish on the dancefloor. Who are we to judge?”
