#theshowmustbepaused

Dear ravers,

Usually we post a list of best quarantine live streams on Friday. But due to recent events we felt the need and urgency to talk about the Black Lives Matter movement instead and give a follow-up to #theshowmustbepaused. Let’s stand still and reflect on the suffering of black lives. Not only in America, but all over the world.

Our core values at Hedon Sonance are equality, responsibility and freedom. We are shocked and disgusted about what happened to George Floyd. We realize that this is a daily struggle for people of colour. It opened up our eyes. And we cannot do nothing. We have to take our responsibility, speak up and change.

As a white male and female we understand that we will never fully understand. What we can do is use our voice and platform to educate ourselves and other (white) people on the subject so we can be better allies. We need to stand for these values not only on the dancefloor, but in daily life as well. We will write about freedom and equality on a structural basis now.

For this weeks post we choose to highlight the documentary ‘13th’ to get an understanding of the complexity and history of racism and police brutality in the United States. It left us in tears to discover that the whole system of law and order was created to criminalize black people and served as a basis for an economic business model. Slavery isn’t ended. It is incorporated into a law system.
